Neither! Apogee Sacramento is a full-time learning academy designed for families who want to be engaged in their children’s education with the guidance and support of a passionate and experienced team.
Unlike homeschool co-ops, which are primarily parent-led, and traditional private schools, which often follow standardized curricula, Apogee offers something unique: small, dynamic studios led by experienced educators, providing personalized, mastery-based learning drawn from the best practices of multiple educational approaches. Parents are encouraged to be as involved as possible, while students receive the structure and mentorship of a thriving learning community.
Because we are not a traditional school, we can operate fully in alignment with our educational philosophy, faith values, and commitment to protecting freedoms for families without institutional constraints.
We are currently accepting students ages 3-12 years (Pre-K - 6th). Apogee Sacramento will expand into both middle and high school in the coming years.
Apogee Sacramento students are on campus Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
For Pre-K through Kindergarten aged children, go to our Wonder Studio page to see the options you can select from.
We will welcome learners on September 2, 2025 and our final day for the 2025-2026 year is June 4, 2025.
Our year is split into 6 sprints, each running on average 6 weeks.
Sprints are followed by a 1 week break, with the exception of December providing a 2 week break.

Families must establish legal enrollment for their child’s education by the time they turn six years old. While all core academic learning takes place on campus at Apogee, families must choose one of two legal pathways:
File a Private School Affidavit (PSA) – This allows your family to operate as an independent private homeschool, giving you full autonomy over your child’s education without state oversight or record-keeping requirements.
Enroll with a Homeschool Charter School – This option provides legal coverage, accountability, and access to funding for educational expenses such as enrichment classes and supplies.
We highly recommend Cottonwood or Sequoia Grove charter schools, as many of our families are enrolled with them, and they have been excellent partners in supporting students within our program.
We greatly value freedoms of all kinds, including the freedom for families to make their own medical decisions. We do not hold medical records of any kind and have no requirements.
Classes are mixed-age, allowing learners to progress towards mastery at their own pace while fostering collaboration and leadership skills. The program maintains small class sizes, with a maximum of 15-20 students depending on age, ensuring personalized attention and a supportive learning environment.
Students learn in developmental groups rather than strict grade levels, allowing them to progress at their own pace—advancing when ready while receiving support where needed. Hands-on Montessori materials enable students to work on different concepts simultaneously. Where they excel, students have the opportunity to teach peers which deepens their own mastery while fostering collaboration, leadership, and a strong learning community.
How do you assess student progress without traditional grades?
Student progress is measured through one-on-one assessments in math and language arts at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Rather than focusing on grades, we emphasize mastery, project completion, and personal growth. Students earn badges in core subjects as they demonstrate mastery, and progress is documented through physical and digital portfolios, Guide feedback, and parent meetings. Learn more in the Mastery Focus section of our Academic Approach page.

Technology is used as a supervised, supplemental tool to reinforce math and literacy concepts, and support research, but our primary focus is on hands-on, immersive learning. This approach fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity without over-reliance on screens while also helping students develop familiarity with technology as a valuable and versatile resource.
At Apogee Sacramento, joyful learning is a key measure of success. Research shows that children learn best when experiences are joyful, meaningful, engaging, iterative, and socially interactive. When anxiety is low, brain function is higher, leading to deeper learning, better retention, and a love for discovery.
We embrace both a mastery focused and project-based approach inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, where children are respected as curious, capable, and active participants in their learning. By integrating academic work that each student is ready for with hands-on, meaningful discovery, we create engaging and purposeful learning experiences that build a strong foundation and promote joyful growth that students will want to keep coming back for!
Students from programs like Apogee are often well-equipped for traditional settings due to their ability to think critically, work independently, and communicate effectively. We prepare students for future transitions by focusing on mastery, character, and adaptability.
Our small class sizes and individualized learning approach allow us to accommodate various learning styles. While we do not have additional resources for a special education program, we work closely with families to support students with specific needs whenever possible.
Apogee Sacramento places a strong emphasis on social-emotional development. We have dedicated, weekly SEL skill development integrated into our schedule, and daily practice of the concepts learned. Check out our Whole Child Approach page for more information.
At Apogee Sacramento, discipline is rooted in connection, respect, and empowerment, rather than fear, punishment, or control. Inspired by Bernii Godwin & Danny Silk’s Loving Our Students On Purpose, we focus on fostering self-awareness, self-management, communication, and conflict resolution. Instead of punitive measures, we guide students to understand the natural consequences of their choices and take responsibility for how their actions impact others. When conflicts arise, students are supported in restoring relationships through reflection, problem-solving, and making amends in a meaningful way. This approach cultivates emotional intelligence, personal responsibility, and a culture of mutual respect, equipping students with lifelong skills in communication, empathy, and accountability.
At the start of the year, students and staff collaboratively create a Studio Code of Conduct, ensuring shared ownership of community expectations. If a student repeatedly acts outside of this agreed-upon code, they will be guided through a growth plan involving parents and Guides. This process provides an opportunity for students to make necessary adjustments to remain part of the Apogee community—or, through their actions, choose to un-enroll.
Our team is dedicated to living and leading like Jesus as we invest in your children. Our campus culture and studio code of conduct are built on the values He teaches, with prayer woven naturally into our daily rhythm. You can learn more about our Spiritual Development focus here.
Parents are the "Chief Inspiration Officers" of their homes and play a vital role in their child's educational journey. Family involvement strengthens both our program and your home by creating continuity that fuels deeper learning and growth. To support this, we have a volunteer commitment and encourage parents to reinforce learning at home, participate in community events, and engage in parent education opportunities.
We cultivate community through small class sizes, intentional connection points at the beginning and end of the day, parent involvement (including parent volunteer hours and community field trips), campus events, and opportunities for families to connect, such as our group chat platform for studios and the all-campus chat.
Yes! We offer community gatherings, parent education nights, and curated resources from various ministries and local churches to support your personal and spiritual growth. Our goal is to equip parents with tools to lead their families with purpose, faith, and confidence while fostering a strong, connected community.
We integrate creativity, art exploration, field trips, and service opportunities in our Monday - Thursday schedule. With additional opportunities for music, cooking, STEM, art, movement/fitness, (and more!) on Fridays through our Whole Life Co. classes.
We currently focus on our academic-year program but may consider adding summer or after-school programs in the future based on community interest.
We incorporate service projects into our program to teach students the value of generosity and community impact. These projects may involve serving and ministering to the elderly, helping local charities, or caring for our local environment. We also commonly have parents organizing their own outreach opportunities outside of campus time as we have a culture of serving and ministering to our community.
Safety is a top priority. We have clear protocols for emergencies, health, and supervision. All staff and volunteers are background-checked, and our campus is secure during school hours. We keep all studio doors locked during program time, and children are always supervised by at least one staff member with a walkie-talkie.
For added peace of mind, we use CatapultEMS, a real-time safety alert system that keeps our staff and local responders instantly connected during any emergency.
Apogee Sacramento is an affiliate of Apogee Strong, sharing the mission to reseed the foundations of a free and sovereign society by disrupting education for the entire family. This partnership allows us to integrate Apogee Strong's resources, mentorship philosophies and programs into what we offer, enhancing the experience and options for our Apogee families. As an affiliate, we maintain a great deal of autonomy over our program and have been able to create something unique to our values and approach within the Apogee network.
